Phil has been fortunate to perform with
most of southern California's finest ensembles. This includes
frequent performances with the symphony orchestras of:
Long Beach, Pasadena, and Santa Barbara, the Los Angeles
Opera, Opera Pacific, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
Participation in chamber music often includes performances
for Dilijian, Jacaranda, XTET, California E.A.R. Unit,
Sunday's Live, Monday Evening Concerts, and Mladi. Phil
is a current member of the Pasadena Symphony, and the highly
acclaimed new music ensembles XTET, and California E.A.R.
Unit. Phil has numerous live radio broadcasts for WQXR,
KJAZ, KMZT, and many others to his credit. He has performed
with a huge variety of musicians, ranging from Pierre Boulez
to Santana. As a recording musician, he can be heard performing
on many motion pictures, jingles, and television shows.
Phil is a former professor of clarinet for the Old Town
Conservatory of Music in Pasadena, and at the colleges
in Riverside, California. Formal studies include work with;Joe
Henderson(saxophone) and also; Ralph Martin, John Phillips,
William Wohlmacher, Peter Simenauer, Charles Russo, and
Yehuda Gilad (clarinet). Phil is a Frank H. Buck Foundation
Scholarship winner. This provided him with the opportunity
to study the clarinet and saxophone at California State
University, Hayward (Bachelor of Arts), the Manhattan School
of Music (Master of Music), and at University of Southern
California (Advanced Studies Performance Certificate).
